BioTreasure Secures €2.5M from SPRIND to Scale Integrated Bio-Chemical Manufacturing Platform
Munich, February 24, 2026 - BioTreasure, backed by SPRIND and leveraging Insempra's industrial biotechnology platform, has advanced to Stage III of SPRIND's Circular Biomanufacturing Challenge, securing €2.5 million to scale its integrated bio-chemical manufacturing platform toward industrial deployment and commercialization.

A new industrial manufacturing platform for bio-based chemicals
The chemical industry relies on concentrated petrochemical and oleochemical supply chains that are both carbon-intensive and geographically fragile. Biological production offers local, renewable alternatives, but remains limited in product range and slowed by long development timelines. BioTreasure bridges this gap.
The platform integrates circular continuous fermentation with proprietary chemistry into a single manufacturing system for cost-efficient, industrial-scale production of high-performance bio-based chemicals from renewable feedstocks. By designing the process as one unified system rather than separate steps, BioTreasure enables local, sustainable production while expanding product scope and scaling output.
BioTreasure targets markets in advanced materials, personal & home care, and agrochemicals, enabled by a modular platform that scales across industries, delivering high-performance, cost-efficient bio-based solutions with resilient, local supply.
Built in collaboration with SPRIND and Insempra
BioTreasure was established through the collaboration of SPRIND, Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, and Insempra, a Munich-based industrial biotechnology company with a strong track record in the production and commercialization of bio-based ingredients at scale. The venture combines SPRIND backing with Insempra’s expertise in scaling bio-based products to industrial manufacturing.
BioTreasure builds on this foundation by integrating proprietary chemistry directly into the manufacturing process, enabling seamless integration of biological and chemical conversion, expanding the addressable chemical product space, and establishing a continuous, circular system inherently scalable to industrial levels.
BioTreasure has gone from prototype to industrial scale through SPRIND’s Circular Biomanufacturing Challenge, advancing through all three stages since 2023 with validation from a globally recognized expert jury.
